Ashtanga Yoga Boston was founded in 2007. We strive to teach Ashtanga yoga in the traditional way, as it has been and continues to be taught at the K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute (KPJAYI) in Mysore, India.
Per tradition, we teach most of our classes “Mysore-style” — with hands-on adjustments as each student needs, and with minimal talking. Once a week, we offer led class where students are verbally led through the Primary series of Ashtanga yoga. In both types of class, beginning and experienced students practice side-by-side.
Our teachers have extensive experience teaching Ashtanga yoga. That said, we are first and foremost Ashtanga practitioners and continue to maintain our own regular Ashtanga practice. Hopefully, this keeps us in touch with what the practice brings.
George has had the great privilege of studying under Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath Jois. He has been practicing since 1996, with numerous trips to Mysore for further study. He received authorization to teach Ashtanga Yoga from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in 2004 and currently has Level 2 Authorization from KPJAYI. He founded Ashtanga Yoga Boston in 2007. He is very happy to be teaching morning class daily. With deep respect, his teaching is dedicated to the yoga tradition of Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.
Michael is very excited to be teaching at AYB. He began practicing yoga in 2007 and has been practicing Ashtanga yoga daily since 2010. Michael has more than seven years’ teaching experience both in a class format and privately. He received his 200 hour RYT in July 2009. Michael has taken master classes with Sharath Jois and Manju Jois and a variety of other teachers. He was given his Sanskrit name Arjuna by his beloved teacher Lisa Asha Rapp.
